Release

By Ellen Bennett | February 2, 2021

Release. Allow escape from confinement; set free. To quote Indian novelist Arundhati Roy in her article “The Pandemic is a Portal”:

“Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew…We can choose to walk through it, dragging the carcasses of our prejudice and hatred, our avarice, our data banks and dead ideas, our dead rivers and smoky skies behind us. Or we can walk through lightly, with little luggage, ready to imagine another world. And ready to fight for it.” (Financial Times)

Roy’s words inspired my piano solo, “Release”

Entrancing – powerful yet comforting and soft. Great piece Ellen!

I like how the song starts – slow, halting, can’t quite getting going – then something happens – a little hope grows into a bigger one, and finally, a tentative confidence.
