This Way Now

By Ellen Bennett | November 26, 2020

“This Way Now” seems appropriate at this juncture in the pandemic. It has no melody, just chordal progressions with 4ths and 5ths lingering in the decay of the instrument voices. For me, the lack of melody speaks to an imbalance between darkness and light, anxiety and hope. Even with the promising vaccines on the horizons and a light at the end of this Covid tunnel, we have some difficult months ahead.  The melody will come. In the meantime, I hope you can find some solace in the progressions.

Listening to made me feel like I was watching a scene in a movie that had only music & pictures. Very moving & wonderful!

Ellen – Beautiful. Strong. Uplifting. Peaceful. Comforting. Some surprising sequences about 1/2 way and 3/4 of the way into the piece. I was hearing the melody in my head….this will certainly come to you. Or you can let the listener write their own melody. Much like we are all on this journey together, but have our own stories to tell. You absolutely inspire me to become a better version of myself. Fabulously crafted. Thank you my friend!

Thank you for your heartfelt observations, Cathy. We are all warriors on this road to humanity, right? 2021…let’s get back on those gray roads and find the melodies!

Sounds hopeful and thoughtful to me — it hardly needs a melody, but I look forward to hearing it!
Definitely has a gentle “on the road” vibe.

This is very beautiful. I have it on in the background while I work on my computer – lit tree in the corner, fire in the wood stove. CJ wrote that it feels hopeful. I think I agree. Sounds like it could be part of a movie soundtrack too. Keep making art of all kinds my friend. We all need it. xo
