A Very Good Recipe

During an evening photo walkabout, I saw this creative sign in the window of Curio Spice, one of my favorite niche stores in Cambridge. When I’m shooting documentary photos for the Lens, I usually only post images of people, situations, and signage with a literal Covidian connection. But there’s a deep nexus between the pandemic and racism. Covid has not only amplified all of our personal demons, it has laid bare the pervasive and systematic racism in our country.

Kudos to Curio Spice for devoting a window to this very Covidian topic and framing it in such a hopeful way.

Steve Bennett is a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based visual artist. He began taking photographs more than 40 years ago, in the age of film, and transitioned to digital photography in the late 90s. Today, in addition to taking and making traditional street, macro, and landscape photographs, he creates photo-based abstract composites designed to take viewers on fanciful flights of the imagination through virtual realms.
